Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using YEN Terminal ("YEN", "the Application", "our Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use YEN.

YEN is developed and maintained by YEN ("we", "us", "our"). We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of YEN after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

2. Description of Service

YEN is a terminal emulator application for macOS that provides:

  • GPU-accelerated terminal rendering
  • Visual settings configuration interface
  • Shell integration for common shells (Bash, Zsh, Fish)
  • Automatic update notifications
  • Split panes and tabbed interface

YEN is built on Ghostty, an open-source terminal emulator, with additional customizations and branding.

3. License Grant

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use YEN for personal or commercial purposes on devices you own or control.

You may not:

  • Modify, reverse engineer, or decompile YEN except as permitted by applicable law
  • Remove or alter any proprietary notices or branding
  • Use YEN for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
  • Redistribute YEN without prior written consent, except as permitted by the underlying open-source licenses

4. Open Source Components

YEN incorporates open-source software components, including Ghostty. These components are subject to their respective open-source licenses, which may grant you additional rights. Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit your rights under those licenses.

The source code for YEN's customizations and the underlying Ghostty terminal are available under their respective licenses. See our GitHub repository for details.

5. User Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Ensuring your use of YEN complies with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Maintaining the security of your system and any commands executed through YEN
  • Any content, commands, or scripts you execute using YEN
  • Backing up your configuration files and any important data

6. Privacy and Data Collection

YEN respects your privacy. The Application:

  • Does not collect or transmit terminal command history
  • Does not collect personal information without consent
  • Performs update checks by contacting our servers to compare version numbers only
  • Stores configuration locally on your device

7. Updates and Modifications

We may release updates to YEN that add features, fix bugs, or address security issues. While we strive to maintain backward compatibility, updates may occasionally change functionality.

YEN includes an automatic update notification system. You are not required to install updates, but we recommend keeping YEN current for security and performance reasons.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

YEN IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that YEN will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF YEN, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless YEN and its developers, officers, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your use of YEN or violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

These Terms remain in effect until terminated. You may terminate by uninstalling YEN and ceasing all use. We may terminate or suspend your access to YEN at any time, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users or us.

Upon termination, provisions that by their nature should survive will remain in effect, including ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, and limitations of liability.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in San Francisco County, California.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these Terms shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.

14. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and YEN regarding the use of the Application and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
